Compton Normalization

The Compton Normalization algorithm is developed from standards calibrated against the Compton peak, or incoherent backscatter radiation observed with materials composed primarily of light elements.   In this case the Compton peak acts as an internal standard. This method is used for analyzing low concentrations (i.e., <2%) of heavy elements in low-density materials such as plastic, wood, or soil.
