XRF Analysis of UNS-R58640, Titanium Alloy Beta C (Grade 19)
The UNS-R58640 alloy is identified uneventfully by the XRF analyzer at short (e.g., 11 seconds) acquisition times. However, for longer acquisition times (e.g., 180 seconds) Mn shows as a false positive in the presence of Cr, owing to overlap of the Cr Kb line at 5.95 keV (Cr spectrum) with the detection region the instrument uses for Mn (5.7-6.1 keV). Notice that Mn also read high for UNS-R30035, another alloy containing Cr.
