XRF UNS G10180

XRF Analysis of UNS-G10180, Carbon Steel, 1018

The presence of several trace elements (Cu, Cr, Ni, Mo) that are not specified for the 1018 grade will cause a “no match” reading at the longer acquisition times that allow their detection. Note that this grade is one of several dozen manganese-containing carbon steels that differ in the amount of undetectable elements (e.g., C, P, S), hence the generic designation of “…Series” in the instrument grade library. The right column “LE (light element)-adjusted” shows normalized values for the certificate of analysis after correcting for invisible elements. These values can be compared to those from the XRF instrument.
