Is it Gold?

Is it Gold? XRF Analysis of a Golden Powder

The vial below, passed down from one generation to the next, was thought to contain gold. However, XRF analysis reveals it has no gold whatsoever and is actually consistent with red brass.  The XRF software identified the powder as alloy UNS C83400.  The sample below it that looks like soil is actually authentic pure precipitated gold powder.

Appearances may be deceptive when it comes to items that look like gold;  In the majority of cases, XRF testing will help to quickly confirm or refute the presumption.
