Brass from Copper and Zinc

Heterogeneous Example: Copper and Zinc

Semicircles of pure copper and pure zinc sheet can be made to appear as various brasses to an XRF analyzer, depending on how they are positioned on the detector to vary their relative exposed surface area. This illustrates how the effective % composition value derived from heterogeneous samples can yield potentially misleading result if the sample state is not taken into consideration.
